Encouraging young children to love wildlife is not difficult. When my son was about three years old, I found a box of snails stashed underneath his bed. The slimy creatures had already started their daring escape across the wooden floorboards when they were discovered by a rather surprised me. Wildlife and the natural world is and always has been a fascination for children.
You can’t deny that there’s something very enticing and mysterious about the lives of creepy-crawlies and the animals that venture into our gardens. They live among our modern concrete world, skulking around our rubbish bins at night and taking an early morning drink from our birdbaths and yet often are completely overlooked by us humans.
