OZ HARVEST DINES

“EVERYTHING WE DO at OzHarvest revolves around food, but our impact goes way beyond just the meals we deliver.” Ronni Kahn, founder of food rescue group OzHarvest, is talking to delicious. about the organisation’s newest endeavour – Refettorio Sydney, a restaurant and community space that offers free meals to those facing food insecurity. It’s a project spearheaded by world-renowned Italian chef Massimo Bottura, who has established other Refettorios globally, from Milan to New York. “My dear friend Massimo and his charity Food For Soul have a global project, creating beautiful Refettorios all around the world to support people in need, and create a space for them filled with beauty, dignity, and good food,” Khan says. “When we met a few years ago, I knew we would do something amazing together.”

This new outpost in Surry Hills is the 13th iteration of Refettorio. The space itself was a community effort, with everything – from the building down to the cutlery and produce used – being donated or rescued. But it is the creation of community that Kahn is most proud of. “Our mission is to not only feed people in need, but to welcome them with open arms, to be treated with dignity and respect in this beautiful space, filled with warmth and joy, and delicious meals made with love, using rescued food.”

Want to support OzHarvest and experience the magic of Refettorio yourself? The Neighbourhood Dinner series, which run every fortnight, are your ticket. For $80 per person, you can enjoy a three-course meal cooked by the amazing team, with the proceeds from every ticket going straight back
