Relaxing with friends in scenic surroundings
Organising a trip for a group of friends can be a thankless task. For starters, they all immediately assume that just because you clicked on the campsite website, you’re an instant expert on every detail of that site’s operation. “Does the shower need tokens?”
“Is there a water point near our pitches?”
“Does the shop sell Practical Motorhome?”
Okay, I made up the last one, but you get the point.
When I first suggested that our friends the Shoulers (Mark and Catherine, plus labs Jake and Max) and the Cresswells (Steve, Vicki and daughter Evie) should join me and my wife, Helen, on a trip to Southwold in late May, I hadn’t anticipated that by simply suggesting the venue, I’d also automatically adopt the role of Tour Guide and Fount Of All Knowledge on Southwold.
The plan was simple: head to Southwold and spend a lazy weekend talking rubbish, eating and drinking too much and generally being inactive. We often race cars, or charge up and down Welsh hills on mountain bikes, so it would make a great change to have a simple, chilled-out weekend. And few places are as laid back as Southwold.
