The ever-changing landscape

ainting the landscape and the environment that surrounds us is an occupation that can be carried out at any time. As artists we have no influence over the landscape or the weather conditions that affect it. When painting still life or the figure the artist has complete control. The arrangement or the pose, the colour and shape of the objects involved, the lighting and the composition, all are infinitely changeable. The same is not true of the landscape. You take what is given complete with the changes the ever-changing weather conditions bring. The only way to change what is before you, is to change position or use artistic licence.
