MGA (1955-1962)
The frustrations of Le Mans MG TD driver George Philips gave us the MGA. His car wasn’t fast enough on the Mulsanne Straight, so Philips had Abingdon’s chief engineer, Syd Enever, lower the seating position and design a special teardrop body to sit on the chassis in 1951. That racing prototype was then worked into a production car to provide a much-needed modern MG to respond to the likes of Austin-Healey and Triumph.
