BALLROOM BOMBSHELLS!

• The concept was initially inspired by the ballroom competitions Baz competed in when he was young • Paul and Tara almost weren't cast in the film as Paul was a decade older than character Scott and financial backers were reluctant to cast Tara, a non-dancer, in Fran's role. • The film made John Paul Young's a worldwide hit. • It took two people six weeks to embroider Scott's matador jacket worn in the finale. • The final scene was shot during a lunch break of a real ballroom dancing championship. Baz was given just an hour to complete the scene. • It was initially pulled from mainstream cinemas due to lack of interest, however after it won the Prix de la Jeunesse at Cannes, it was given a massive national release, where it ran for more than a year in some cinemas.
