VISIONTRACK DUCATI BRITISH SUPERBIKES
Last month I dropped in that I’d got a new role as fourth rider in the Yoshimura SERT Motul World Endurance squad. It’s no small thing as the guys are the reigning world champions but I didn’t say too much about it as to that point I’d only completed one test. As it turns out, it’s the hardest job I’ve ever taken on. Race week as reserve rider is a tough experience. Basically, I spent the week in the hotel spa, eating nice food, getting in my usual training (but around the scenic Belgian countryside). I had time to get my hair cut. Of course every now and again I had to ride and the rest of the spare time I watched my teamies and factor in that I’m not even one of the three and instead I’m the fourth guy. I’m just the guy that will get to race if one of the others can’t. How I like the bike is all but irrelevant and all of a sudden I’m not the king. I’m not even the prince and actually I’m not even sure if I’m in the royal bloodline so to have to sit at the back of the garage being all but invisible is pretty hard to swallow.
