The Nobel Prize

Nobel prizes are also given for literature, peace and economics, although the economics prize was not stipulated by Nobel. The prizes were first awarded in 1901, since then 609 people have won science prizes.

The prizes

Those who win a Nobel prize receive a gold medal, a Nobel diploma and a sum of money. The medals all have a portrait of Albert Nobel on the front, but different designs on the back, depending on what the prize is for.
