The Mueller who was supposed to be immortalised in this grand way was botanist Ferdinand von Mueller. But he lost his place on the map when the river was ‘re-discovered’ by William Landsborough, who renamed the waterway Diamantina, a£ er the wife of Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the first governor of Queensland.
