Welcome
‘I took out as many as I could carry’
For the last two days I’ve been working from Hobart, where my hubby Simon and I came down to seeteam, and Julia, our picture editor and new mum, said she’d become a frequent visitor to her local library. ‘Our mums’ group meets there often, especially when it’s raining,’ she said. Lisa had special memories of the mobile library van that came to the South London street where she grew up. ‘I loved the smell of the books – still do – and took out as many as I could carry,’ she said. Jude recalled the time she was in Yorkshire in the UK. It was cold, and she was waiting for a job, so the library was a place of refuge. ‘I spent the days keeping warm and reading so many fabulous books,’ she said. ‘A few years later, when I was in Darwin with little money, and waiting for a job, I again turned to the library. But this time it was for the air conditioning!’ she laughed.
