This remarkably clear photograph was published in the July 15, 1903, edition of The Motor Cycle – the publication’s first year of existence. Taken at the Aldershot Army Signalling School, it shows the conclusion of a two-month assessment and evaluation of the use of motorcycles in the theatre of war, in this instance largely to demonstrate the benefits over other means of transport employed by signallers, namely pedal cycles.
