Summer breeze

Summer Thornton is an unashamed maximalist. The Chicago-based interior designer approaches her projects without a hint of inhibition, putting her foot on the gas to unleash a riot of saturated colours (neutral shades, she says, are “forgettable”), bold prints and playful accessories. “I believe in decorating with reckless abandon to create fantastical homes that transport you,” explains Thornton, whose book, Wonderland: Adventures in Decorating, delves into her technicolour portfolio and self-described “extremist” design ethos. “Most of the homes I’ve designed have a sense of fantasy and whimsy, and a dreamy quality that takes the owner down a rabbit hole to something beyond their wildest dreams.”
