Mercury, the trickster of the zodiac, is ready to make mischief in your life once more, from September 9 to October 2. As most people know, Mercury turns retrograde three times a year, though sometimes he makes a brief appearance a fourth time. This planet’s retrograde is an important event to people who pay attention to astrology, but even many people who say they don’t think much about astrology at all, secretly mark its dates on their calendar. So when Mercury starts backsliding, all of a sudden everyone is paying attention to where their keys are, being careful about what they sign, and so on.
There is, though, an important side to Mercury retrograde that all too few people pay attention to, and which we’ll get to in this article, but first for any newbies who entered the room we’ll go over some of the retrograde basics. Mercury’s comings and goings are important because this is the planet that governs our mind, in terms of how we think, and how we remember. If Mercury is speeding along in forward motion, our minds may also move along at a rapid pace, so when it is slowing down we may take a bit longer to collect our thoughts, and when it is retrograde we may tend to become distracted more often than usual.
