he engine managed to keep going for about 50 yards before it cut out altogether; repeatedly pulling the cord and tweaking the choke and throttle were having no effect. As the tide at Youghal was ebbing strongly, I grabbed for the mooring line of a fishing vessel to prevent me from being swept out to sea. I quickly secured my tender to the boat and tried again and again to start the outboard but to no avail. I knew it would be impossible to row against the tide. I would have to sit tight for the next two hours until slack water. Perhaps going ashore
