LIFE IN THE FAST LANE

Martin Davidson may not be a well-known name in Mini racing circles (partly because he used the pseudonym Harry Martin) but he was involved in pushing the boundaries when it came to Mini tuning and encouraging top racers to drive their Minis even faster.

MiniWorld caught up with him a few months ago but sadly Martin passed away before his story could be printed. He was an energetic, fun-seeking character who was evidently a petrolhead and speed-freak and he had clearly been like that since his early days growing up in Ealing, London.

“I was always mad on racing and went to my first Grand Prix in ’58, at Silverstone, when I was 17. I taught myself to drive, when I was about nine, on a Fergie tractor. I practiced doublede-clutching on that and always drove my father’s cars on private land. I passed my test on my 17th birthday. My first car was an MG PA which I bought for ?50.
