NEW SENSATIONS

AS WE WRITE this, Milwaukee Young Street Machine of the Year has been up and running for only a couple of weeks, and man, it has been more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

If you missed the news, Young Street Machine of the Year is a new competition for Street Machiners aged 24 or younger. Inspired by our longstanding Milwaukee Street Machine of the Year contest, YSMOTY is designed to acknowledge, reward and encourage the young punks of the car scene.

Want to be part of it? It’s easy! Just scan the QR code on this page to visit the YSMOTY web page, where you can tell us about your ride and upload some photos. Then hit the socials and promote your car using the hashtag #ysmoty. But hurry! You only have until Friday 24 June to get your entry in.

Once entries close, the SM team will choose our favourite 16 cars, and then it will be up to our readers to vote for the overall winner. The very first Young Street Machine of the Year winner will receive $2500, some cool Milwaukee products, an SM mag feature and even a car show in their honour. And just for voting, one lucky reader will also score $2500, thanks to our pals at Milwaukee.

We’ve had a stack of entries from all over the country, and while chrome-bumper cars are dominating so far, we’ve been stoked at the number of JDMs, 4x4s and other non-traditional street machines in the mix. The buzz on the socials has been crazy, too, with lots of encouraging banter between entrants and their supporters. Just search #ysmoty on your favourite platform to check it out.

Here are just some of the entrants that have caught our eye. Bear in mind though that these aren’t necessarily finalists – they won’t be chosen until after entries close – but they’ll give you an idea of

OLD hands know that project cars are never truly finished, as we’re always tinkering on, improving or spicing-up our rides. For Ballarat’s Brendan Simpson this had culminated in a tidy, small-block-powered HG Premier, but the call of a belt-driven in

SHANE Graham didn't know much about Valiants when he bought his VJ Charger 15 years ago. He was 19 years old and in the market for an HQ coupe until this car popped up on eBay. “The look and colour sold it for me,” he says. It helped that the car was
