The constant flow of new and exciting rifles can be bewildering, and choosing a new one is genuinely difficult for some. In the process it's easy to forget that fundamentally, shooting air rifles is a whole lot of fun.
For many of us, the love affair with air rifles began with sending a few tin cans flying in the back garden, and more likely than not we were using a break-barrel spring rifle. Of course, a number of us graduated to more costly pre-charged pneumatics, but the fact remains that springers are the ultimate test of shooting technique.
A combination of price and convenience makes a decent springer hard to beat, appealing equally to newcomers trying the sport out and more experienced shooters who've had enough of PCPs and their sweet spots, reg pressures and O-rings.
