The limited palette

When I first started painting I was overwhelmed by the selection of colours available. I must have had a tube of paint for every occasion to avoid mixing as much as possible. An artist friend suggested I should find myself a basic palette and learn the nuts and bolts of tonal value before worrying over colour. The Zorn palette was among his many suggestions, and I must admit that using fewer colours gave me a good introduction to value, and the basics of colour mixing.
