South African blueberry producers are locked into contracts with companies holding plant breeders’ rights for blueberry varieties in which farmers who plant these varieties are bound to sell all of their produce through either these companies or their affiliates. This was according to a farmer who spoke to Farmer’s Weekly on condition of anonymity.
