FOSTERING PEACE
In his inaugural speech in 1981, the much-hated Lennox Sebe, first President and dictator President-for-life of the “independent” apartheid collaborating Republic of Ciskei, advised that the policy of his government would be, “a meal a day for everyone, because empty stomachs have no ears”.
This may be the (wise) words of a dictator, but they are a principle that most in South Africa should understand and heed. Sadly, after 28 years of democracy, South Africa, disappointingly and threateningly, scores at the top of the list at 63% (it should be termed bottom of the list!) in the World Bank’s and CIA World Factbook’s Gini Coefficient.
