While I’ve never collected them, I have always had great admiration for wildfowling guns. There is something about these leviathan smoke poles that stirs the imagination. I picture one in the grip of a hardy fowler, crouching, frozen to the bone on the salt marsh, as he strains to hear the call of the ‘hounds of the sky’ that heralds geese.
