Held in commemoration of the discovery of the Holy Cross of (maidens dressed in beautiful gowns), each representing various characters from the Old and New Testament. As it is also held in May, it is often misconstrued as the same as the Flores de Mayo (Flowers of May); however, the latter is a month-long celebration in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary and culminates with a procession of ladies named after the various titles of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Both events are rooted in old Spanish traditions and are still being practised to this day.
