When five-month-old Paul Crampton was rushed to hospital suffering from a severe chest infection, his parents, Kath and David, were desperately worried. But it wasn’t long before they felt relieved, as Paul started to improve with care and medication.
Then the real nightmare began. Hours later, doctors on the children’s ward at Grantham & Kesteven Hospital in Lincolnshire were mystified when Paul suddenly went downhill and they faced a huge battle to keep the baby alive.
All the while, a young nurse was in the room, silently watching. Her name was Beverley Allitt, but she will be forever known as the “Angel of Death”.
