Coin Designations: Let’s Cut the Nonsense

A“Designation” is an adjective or group of words assigned to a coin to point something out that will often increase its desirability or value. Designations are usually related to a coin’s “strike;” however, they can denote the quality of its surface. As such, the designations we use to describe coins like “Full Steps” or “Cameo” should be fairly simple to understand, identify and apply universally. Unfortunately, that is not the case.
