Mellow rock bliss from the Dream Theater vocalist.
Nearly a decade has passed since James LaBrie last released a solo album. He must have been very busy. But even ignoring the slight distraction of his being frontman with the world’s favourite progressive (2005), (2010) and (2013) were all smart and inventive explorations of heavier territory, and of the gleaming, futuristic fury of Scandinavian, prog-tinged melodic death metal in particular. Arguably overshadowed by Dream Theater’s certified mastery of the monstrous riff, they are each ripe for reassessment, despite the fact that indicates that LaBrie is moving in a different direction today.
