Aspirational asparagus

IN THESE ‘get anything, any time you want’ times, happily there are afew items that resolutely refuse to capitulate. For many, our British asparagus is second to none in quality and is eagerly sought out once the season is under way.

As is typical, the start and end of the season shifts from year to year depending on our capricious weather but, traditionally, the British asparagus season runs from St George’s Day, April 23, to the Summer Solstice on June 21.
