There are 14.6 million disabled people in the UK and, for the most part, they are not catered for by the beauty industry. “I don’t see people like me represented in salons or beauty stores,” says swimmer and Team GB Paralympic medallist Amy Marren, who was born without her right hand. “It takes away your confidence when you think that beautiful means ablebodied. This goes for online as well: it’s not very common to see people like me represented within the media.”
When it comes to products and packaging, Amy says that most brands design with only able-bodied people in mind: “For example, I have one hand so I like packaging that’s easy to open,” she tells . “Some friends of mine have visual impairments and they find that a real barrier to make-up
