dward MacDowell believed that a poem could help the performer interpret a work. This piece, No 2 from the Op 32, depicts a poem of the same title, penned by English poet Robert Bulwer-Lytton (1831-1891). Thought to describe daydreaming by a brook while dropping pebbles in the water, the poem reads as such:
