Big bird brains lead to a longer life

A NEW STUDY by researchers at the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behaviour found that the reason some parrots live for such a long time is related to their relative brain size.

The team looked at 217 different species of parrot and sulphurcrested cockatoo have extremely long average lifespans – of up to 30 years – which are usually only seen in sizeable birds.
