STRANGE PREVAILS IN HISTORIC PLAYOFF JUNE 20, 1988

Curtis Strange was brimming with confidence when he arrived in Brookline for the 1988 U.S. Open Championship at The Country Club.

He had beaten Greg Norman in a play-off to win what is now known as the Houston Open to start the month of May. He closed out that month with another win, this time a two-stroke victory over Hale Irwin and David Frost at the Memorial.
