SEALING THE DEALWORDS

You can tell when a Ferguson TE-20 steering box has had new seals fitted, as they will appear different to the originals. These were made from leather and the housing was wider. The replacements are a double-lipped neoprene or similar material and being a metric equivalent are rather tight in the housing and can be a pain to insert correctly without a press to get them square.

In fact, this is how I ended up with this job. The guy who owns this tractor has a brother who had several goes at putting in new seals in his tractor steering box and eventually gave in and got a friend to push them in for him. This tractor owner knew I had a press as he is an magazine reader and had seen me using it in previous issues.
