ORCADIAN HIGHLIGHTS

Back in January 2009, I spotted a 2007-plate T5 for sale at a VW main dealer in Cardiff. It was an ex-parts van and was slightly more that I could afford. Though, for a virtually new vehicle with only 7000 miles on the clock, it was an opportunity I couldn’t afford to miss so I bit the bullet and paid the £500 deposit.

Having owned a Mk1 Golf GTI in the 1980s, I’ve always been a big VW fan. I had been searching for a T5 for around two years but until then nothing had particularly grabbed my attention.

Thirteen years on, and still with just 51k miles on the clock, we have taken her to France, Spain and Ireland on various camping trips.

During the first five years of ownership we got storage boxes from IKEA and six small wooden tables which were used as a base for our bed. The idea of cutting a large hole in the roof to have a pop-top didn’t sit right with me at first but in 2014 we eventually took the plunge to get it converted into a registered campervan.
