    Hudswell Clarke & Company Ltd, a renowned firm of engineers and locomotive builders based in Jack Lane, Hunslet, Leeds, was founded as Hudswell & Clarke in 1860. A decade later, the name was changed to Hudswell, Clarke & Rodgers, and then to Hudswell Clarke and Company in 1881. The firm became a limited company in 1899.
