Is separate beds the answer?
YES
‘It keeps things fresh and exciting!’
Julia Champion, 53, is a talent manager and lives in south-east London with her husband Matt, 51, and their two children Rosie, 15 and Bella, 13.
My husband Matt and I used to love snuggling up together at night, but once our daughter Rosie a baby waking me was a step too far! So I took myself off to the spare room so I could at least get some shut-eye between being woken by the baby. We didn’t see sleeping in separate rooms as a problem, it was just a means to an end. Gradually, I began to enjoy having my own space, and when we moved to a bigger home in 2019, I officially had my own room. I decorated it in pale pink and silver, and Matt did his in browns and dark colours. When I told friends or family, at least half of them told me that they do the same – it’s not as uncommon as people think. Luckily, it hasn’t had a negative effect on our love or sex life. It keeps it fresh and exciting, and allows us to make more of an effort. These days, the thought of waking up faced with morning breath really turns my stomach. There’s no shame in sleeping in separate beds.
