Determination is certainly one of Joel Kelso’s stronger suits. The diminutive rider that stepped up to the Moto3 World Championship on a permanent basis this year may give off the impression of being laidback and easygoing. But speaking to the 18-year-old from Darwin it soon becomes clear a deep drive within has helped him get to this point.

To this point where Kelso isn’t just making up the numbers. In the six races so far in 2022, the rookie has scored points in three of them. He’s twice bridged the top 10 in that time, with the second of those involving a late duel with Dennis Foggia, a figure observers have tipped to be this year’s champion. And all in the colours of CIP KTM, a squad not known for its lavish budget.
