A fugitive Alabama inmate was caught and a corrections officer with him is now dead

Authorities said the two fugitives were taken into custody near Evansville, Ind., after a chase with U.S. Marshals. The corrections officer has died, officials said.

A former Alabama jail official has died after shooting herself when she and the murder suspect she was accused of helping to escape were captured Monday in Indiana after more than a week on the run, according to officials.
