MotoGP got off to an interesting start on Saturday with Johann Zarco putting his Pramac Ducati on pole, followed by the Team Ecstar Suzuki of Joan Mir and Aleix Espargaro on his factory Aprilia in third place. Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) was on a flying lap which would have handed him pole position, but the lap time was cancelled due to his teammate Pol Espargaro crashing out towards the end of the final qualifying session.
