Words I hear quite often: “you’ve still got it, mate!” They’re usually uttered after I’ve given someone a passenger lap in my 991 Gen II GT3 RS MR (as featured on the) on an RPM Technik track day or after one of my occasional race appearances. As flattering as it is to hear such compliments — may be older, but my ego still needs massaging — I know it not to be true, at least in comparison to when I would consider my driving to have been at its peak (the early to mid-1990s, when I would have been in my mid-thirties). So what has changed and, importantly, to what degree?
