Wayland by default was tested in Ubuntu 17.10, but that was perhaps a little ambitious. Now the technology has matured and Canonical is confident that it’s – to dredge up an irksome phrase – “ready for prime time”. Extensive testing has taken place and the team are confident that the Wayland experience will be good for all. Yep, even those using Nvidia hardware. If it’s not, well, that’s fine.
