Chicken Braised with Figs

SOFT, SWEET, SUCCULENT fresh figs are such a treat. So there’s not much you should do to dress up a great fig, just like a perfect summer peach. But if you’re lucky enough to have an abundance of figs or even a container of figs that are just past their prime, try braising them with chicken.

There are lots of recipes that pair chicken with dried figs. (2002). Rodgers was known for celebrating local, seasonal ingredients. In her recipe, she called for adding fresh figs after cooking the chicken to give them just a minute of heat. Fresh figs, which are already plenty soft, need only this light amount of heat to soften but not fall apart, so you get bites of sweet, warm fruit alongside savory chicken.
