Looking back

Foden No. 13848 was supplied new to Derby County Council in 1931 as an H-type 5 ton three-way tipper. The H-type differed from the normal C-type by being fitted with a smaller 5 ton boiler, had only two speeds and the front axle was fitted with coil springs. Some wagons were fitted with the old-style chain steering and referred to as the HH model.

West Riding County Council bought at least three examples and Cheshire County Council had one, all being three-way tippers. There is one other example in existence fitted with the coil springs on
