Many of us have heard of Stuart Waycott’s big single ohc Velocette-powered ISDT outfit. And those living in the West Country will know of its success post-Second World War on the grass, piloted by Reg Lewis of Bristol, in South Western centre events.
While nothing existed in the Rosenthal family motorcycle archive relating to Waycott Bros’ motorcycle shop, the fact Reg Lewis traded in Bristol gave a clue. Working backwards from the 1950s it was found Waycott Bros traded in Bristol during the 1930s, where, as well as being an active motorcycle business, they were agents for Austin cars in Bristol. After the Second World War, the business changed its trading name to Waycott Motors.
