Turning Back Time

IT IS THE WORLD’S SECOND- oldest single-day race and one of Australia’s toughest road races—yes, it’s the feared and revered Melbourne to Warrnambool.

One of my all-time highlights was riding last year’s 125-year anniversary M2W—I wrote about in Bicycling Australia, and you can read about the ‘no retreat, no surrender race’ on the BA website.

This year was my fifth start of the tough 267km race, an arduous outing that takes in 1850 metres of climbing. Having completed all five of my starts, I’ve got to say just holding that finishers’ medallion is an achievement in itself.
