With the passing of time, motorcycles that have a certain ‘mojo’ about them enter into the ranks of legendary adventure bike status. Just to name a few, classics like BMW’s R 80 GS, Yamaha’s Ténéré, Honda’s Africa Twin and Cagiva’s Elefant, as well as long-serving steeds like Kawasaki’s KLR650 and Suzuki’s V-Strom, all score the legendary tag by having locked down a place in the ADV bike hall of fame.
For Austrian manufacturer KTM, it’s the 640 Adventure that stands out in the crowd of a long list of orange beasts that have carried the ‘Adventure’ label. Not only was the 640 KTM’s first bike to carry the adventure badge, it was also a seriously off-road-biased adventure machine that really struck a chord with Australian adventure riders. The 640 Adventure screamed ‘hardcore’ and if you rode one, you were telling the world you were all about chasing adventure deep in the jungle, not just in the car park of a local Starbucks!
