2 THE FALL OF FUR

It’s official: fur is so out. And it’s not just us who think so. Big brands, major retailers, states, and entire countries worldwide are all taking steps toward dumping the cruel material for good. Overseas, Israel has become the first country to ban the sale of fur, while Austria, Belgium, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom have completely banned fur farming. Major retailers such as Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and T.J.Maxx have begun phasing out fur sold in stores. And now, luxury fashion brands including Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, and Valentino are going fully fur-free. Even Canada Goose—long-protested for its notorious coyote furtrimmed winter jackets—will end the purchasing and manufacturing of fur this year.
