RAIB Carmont report published

THE Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) report into the Carmont accident that occurred on August 12, 2020 has revealed that outdated crashworthiness standards exist in the design of Class 43 HST power cars that offer little protection to traincrew in the event of a collision following derailment.

Carmont is located between Laurencekirk and Stonehaven on the Aberdeen main line and has a signal box controlling train movements. The train involved was 1T08 06.38 Aberdeen to Glasgow Queen Street, which had departed punctually, but was stopped at Carmont after information
