Rail Usage Stats

THE Office of Rail and Road has published its regional rail usage statistics for 2020/21, which showed the impact of Covid-19 varied across the country. The South West recorded the most journeys in 2020/21 as a percentage of 2019/20 at 23.3%; Scotland recorded the lowest at 15.6% of journeys made a year earlier.

The 264 million journeys made within regions in 2020/21 were equivalent to 25.9% of the 1022 million journeys in 2019/20, and London had the most journeys within a region at 149 million.

79.6 million journeys were made between regions in 2020/21, equivalent to 16.5% of the 482 million journeys in 2019/20. London had the most journeys to or from other regions at 65.8 million.
