    Anna Sorokin seemed to be another Manhattan socialite. But under her signature designer glasses, her eyes told a different story. Also known as Anna Delvey, she gained notoriety for scamming New York City’s high society.

    Between 2013 and 2017, her ability to weave skilful lies and manipulate others by masquerading as a German heiress enabled her to swindle banks out of thousands of dollars in fraudulent loans. She flittered the cash away racking up outrageous bills in luxury hotels and restaurants. The charlatan even duped a friend into charging $62,000 to her credit card to cover a stay at a lavish hotel in Marrakesh.

    Eventually, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office began investigating Sorokin, and she was arrested in a police sting operation. Coming from humble means, the Russian-born German citizen
