FRAGRANT ELEGANCE

While to some, a quarter of a century may seem a reasonably long time to spend caring for a garden, Faith and Anthony Hallett simply regard themselves as the latest in a 300-year line of custodians of Whitcombe House.

They are not the first to find delight in the babbling stream that runs across the length of the acre-sized plot, seek the shade of its majestic weeping beech tree, soak up the sunshine on the stone terrace or grow vegetables in soil enriched with decades of well-rotted manure and compost.
