As the author of two books on patina VWs, you might think I’d be in the ‘hater’ camp when it comes to what’s been done to this ’57 Oval. That is if you know the story behind it anyway.

For those that may not be aware, this car was a well-known patina survivor on the scene, loved by just about everyone who saw it. It previously belonged to ‘Seaside’ Neil Forster and Paul Pace, who had it nose down on Firestone Wide Oval tyres and then slammed on Fuchs respectively. Personally, I loved it in both guises, mainly because the patina on it was so perfect. It was also rare in the fact it hadn’t had any panel repairs, blow-ins or paint blending to match the rest of the car. For that, it was both unique and beautiful.

The first time I saw pictures of this car incar, and I admit I found it breathtaking in its beauty.
